To create the completely flush, ultra discreet finished installation, we first install the plaster in mount. This mount has been designed to be installed directly into plaster board or it can be mounted on an EU or UK backbox. We have supplied the correct screws for whichever installation method is desired, however it is essential that the correct screws are used in the correct mounting holes. In this blog we are going to be installing directly to plasterboard. After cutting our 51mm hole in the plasterboard we can insert and install the plaster in mounting plate.
The outer corners have 4 holes for plasterboard screws (circled green), and we have 2 holes for EU back boxes (circled blue) and 2 holes for UK back boxes (circled red). It is vital that the correct screws are used in the correct holes so the screw heads do not protrude beyond the finished surface level. See the datasheet for more information.
Next, we hand over to the plasterer to skim the surface to create a perfectly flat, neat aperture in the ceiling. Ensure to remove any debris from the finished installation to create a neat, clean hole for installation. Cables can be pulled through and coiled up ready for termination after plasterer and decorators have finished. The skimmed ceiling can now be painted and finished for the technology to be installed.
Now we are ready to install the sensor into the finished ceiling. Start by terminating the cables to the back of the sensor technology insert and ensuring the cabling is correct. To insert the sensor into the mourning hole, simply grip the sensor from the front, and push the sensor up into the hole. The 3 spring loaded ball bearings will accept the sensor and provide a ‘click’ when the sensor is correctly seated in place. These spring loaded ball bearings also allow rotation of the sensor to fine tune the detection area of the sensor.
We have included a set of infrared blocking stickers that can be applied to the sensor to tailor the detection area further, we look at this in more detail on our blog: Masking with the Motion Sensor 360 - Plaster In.
The sensor can be removed by gripping the front edge of the device and pulling firmly down, this allows any cable troubleshooting to be done if required.
The final installation step is to fit the front disk. This is held in place by the two magnets on the sensor technology insert. Simply offer the disk up to the sensor until it clicks in place, completing the installation.
This front disk can be painted to match the ceiling finish exactly, and ensure the most discreet installation possible. We advise painting the front disks using a small roller before offering them up to the sensor installation.
When installed, the Motion Sensor 360 - Plaster In creates an extremely discreet, completely flush, yet adjustable motion detector solution for any smart home system.
